Why small farmers? We have
found that small growers often get the least opportunity in the market place.
Interest in developing their success has not been part of the agenda until
recently. Their ability to produce excellent quality coffee has been a "secret"
because of the large plantation dominance of the coffee business in producing
countries.
While
visiting these very remote coffee grower communities, we discovered that
the small growers are people who live in extreme poverty. And yet, these
small farmers produce this wonderful coffee that we offer you-- while
previously having been paid almost nothing for their hard work. We believe
that this does not have to be the case anymore. By paying them a better
price for their product, you and I can make a difference in the lives
of so many. Further, this excellent coffee can be brought to your table
at a lower price than you would normally pay –without sacrificing
quality--because the small growers are becoming "their own man"
as exporters. While you enjoy this coffee, you will be able to think of
those small producers from whom you are buying this coffee and the indigenous
communities you are helping to prosper.
Lately consumers are aware
of the benefits of "naturally" grown products, including coffee.
Now, what is important to those who want to save the Earth, is to avoid
harmful pesticides and chemicals. Mother Nature and the caring consumer
are on the small growers’ side at last, and so are we. The slower
ripening of the Arabica bean, in the shade, at higher altitude, yields
better flavor and smoother after-taste than the sun grown Robusta bean.

Coffee
growing in the shade implies that rainforests will be saved, native and
migrant birds will have nesting places, water will be more abundant and
air will be cleaner. This is what shade grown, chemical free coffee does
to nature, it has restoring powers. At the same time, poor families prosper.
All it takes to generate our own "feel good feeling" is to visualize
the small farmers’ smiles when hope sets in--knowing that this time
they will be properly rewarded for their effort and excellent quality.

Company understands that, in order to help these small producers, we have
to practice sound business principles ourselves. In addition, we decided
that our company policy would be to keep our operating expenses and profits
at the minimum. This last premise, we understand is not the usual, common
business practice. However, it is the only way to make a dream come true,
which is: To see the small growers prosper, to offer their superb product
at a much lower price so that many more people can drink and enjoy this
wonderful coffee and to be fair to ourselves as well.
